Bean to bar: From Ecuador to the world

In 1890, Ecuador was the biggest cocoa producer in the world. It’s fame came to be known as “Gran Cacao”. But in 1920, two plagues almost destroyed the Cocoa Arriba. Today, the last remainings of the Arriba specie are used to make the best cocoa of the world: Chocosapiens.


An appellation of origin is a special kind of geographical indication generally consisting of a geographical name or a traditional designation used on products which have a specific quality or characteristics that are essentially due to the geographical environment in which they are produced.
